AUSTRALIA HAS PLENTY OF

SPLENDID BOWLERS

ENGLAND WILL BE UP AGAINST IT

(By Jólin Macadam)

Sunday Chronicle

In all the columns I have read about the chances of our cricket team in Australia this winter there has been little mention of any Australian bowlers beyond O'Reilly and Grimmett. We have had good reason to look on these two as bogey-men. They have humbled the flower of English cricket on so many occasions.

Secking consolation, some crities argue that Grimmett is less effective? on Australlen wickets than he is in this country and that he is now well in the category of veterans.

That may be, but he was good enough to take ninety-three wickets (average 14.64) during the Austro- Hans' recent tour in South Afrlen.

PLENTY OF BOWLERS Quite apart from O'Reilly and Grimmett, Australia, during the last two years, has developed in Shelleld Shield cricket a number of players who have established their right to challenge for places in the Australian 11.K.C.C.. 3 2 0 1015 22 cleven this winter.

Brown and Fingleton will probably open the Australian innings. They are the logical successors to Woodfull and Ponsford.

NO ROWS, PLEASE! -

Altogether we seem to be in for a spot of trouble.

But I am sure that every cricket- lover will be with me when I say that it does not matter if we lose every Test match providing the game is played in the right spirit and there Is no recurrence of that squabbling that brought the last tour, to the level of a third-rate prizefight.
