An astounding story of how his confession to the murder of the Lindbergh baby was extracted by torture, was told by Paul Wendel, former Trenton lawyer, when he was interviewed by a representative of the Brooklyn District Attorney to-day.
Wendel said he was imprisoned for ten days in the cellar of a Brooklyn house. Before he signed the confession he was tortured with fire, strung up by his thumbs to the ceiling, and threatened with a terrible death.
