Berlin, Mar. 16.

Hope of a peaceful settlement, through the League of Nations, of the Rhineland crisis is believed to have been wrecked by the French refusal to consider Chancellor Adolf Hitler's proposals for new treaties replacing the Versailles and Locarno pacts and by Germany's reitera- tion that her "Symbolic" occupation of the Rhineland must be accepted, since her troops will not be withdrawn.

(SPECIAL TO "TELEGRAPH") (By Telegraph. Copyright, Telegraphic Meenager 1844. Received, Mar, 16, 1940 pan)

London, Mar. 16. · Great Britain has indicated that she will join France in rejecting Germany's conditional acceptance of the in- vitation to participate in the League of Nations' Council discussions here concerning the Rhineland reoccupation and the violation of treaties by the German Government.

Britain has agreed to the German demand for equal treatment, but will refuse the second Berlin condition: immediate discussion of Herr Adolf Hitler's peace pro. posals.

This attitude was made known after M. Pierre Flandin, the French Foreign Minister, said he would. leave London rather than accept the German argument, and repeated that he would not negotiate with Germany until her troops had been withdrawn from the Rhine- land.

It is expected that the British rejection of the German pro posal will be announced at the secret meeting of the League Council to-day.
