CHINESE EXCHANGE

CELEBRATION

PREPARATION FOR KING'S JUBILEE ILLUMINATION

One of the first Chinese commer- cial hongs to make preparations for the celebration of the King's Jubileo on May 6 is the Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange, which has as its members scores of native banks.

At a members' meeting on Satur day evening it was deelded that $2,000 will be set aside for the celebration of the King's Jubilee.

acheme consists of the erection. The of a pai lau at one end of Mercar Street, on which the new Exchange building la under construction. The poi lau will be electrically illuminated and the Exchange will also provide each member native bank with four artistic lanterns, Materials for erecting the pai lau will be sent specially from Canton, as the Exchange officiala believe that services of local scaffolding firma will be fully taxed when the cele bration period comes round.

The moeting Indicated that there was a possibility that the new Chi- ncaa Gold and Silver Exchange building may be completed next month and in such an event the Committed would arrange for the Bynchronous opening, of the Ex- change

go Building on the day of the Jubilee celebration.

A recommendation made at the saing meeting for the revival of an old practice for the Pxchange to open on Saturday afternoons' and Sundays was defeated.
