Although it was announced last night at the Y.M.C.A., that in swimming the 200 yards ATHLETES DUE breast stroke 'în 2 minutes 28.4/10 seconds, Koike, the Japanese Olympic swimmer had ostablished a new world's record, and this claim was accepted, investigation suggests otherwise. There is a dispute between the records given by several well-known publications. Whittaker's Almanac for 1934 gives L Spence of U.S.A., as holder of the record with a time of 2 minutes 25 1/5 seconds, supposed to have been set up in 1927, while earlier issues of the same book acknowledge Walter Spence's time of 2 minutes 31 4/5 seconds, established in 1927.
