ADJUSTMENT WITHOUT CURRENCY JUGGLING
Paris, Feb. 21.
It was intimated in the Chamber of Deputies last night that tho French Govoromont has no inten- tion of Influencing commodity prices by currency control.
The Government's policy seeks an adjustment of the level of internal and external prices but without curroncy manipulation.
The method was enunciated by the Finance Miniator, M. Germalu Martin, in the course of a speech In which he declared that internal account of prices were high on agricultural protection and the ro- sults of the war.
The Government would pursue the least painful method of restor litg the country's maximum activity, and was convinced that simple dovaluation would not bring about an adjustment of prices,
Meanwhile, the Senate has passed a Bill raising the Customs duty on
tea from 3.64 francs to 7.75 francs a kilogram, with the object of protecting the French Colonies, especially Indo-China.-Renter.
