MURDER MYSTERY

THE OLD CURIOSITY SHOP

WHAT IS ITS SECRET?

Scotland Yard and East Sussex detectives have this astonishing mystery to solva:

Joseph Bedford, a' recluse aged 80, was found dying one night ro- cently, in his little general and old curiosity shop in Clarence-street, Portalade.

A constable, noticing goods still outside the shop after closing time, flashed his lamp through the window and saw the old man, with blood over his face, staggering to- wards the door.

Strangely enough, all the doors were locked and bolted-the win- dows had been fastened.

The victim could not speak to the constable, who broke his way in; he had collapsed. He died in hospital.

His death was believed to have been due to a fall following a fit of giddiness or other illness,

Then como a dramatic message from Worthing police suggesting that death may not have been accl-

dental.

How were his injuries.caused?

When the Inquest opened at Hovo the coroner, Dr. E. F. Hoare, announced that he would adjourn it for further inquiries to be made. If he was informed that proceed- ings had been taken clsewhere he would again adjourn.

A love hospital doctor said the man had a fractured skull--which was exceptionally thin-his nasc was broken, and his eyes black- ened.

Mr. Charles Harold Bedford, of Crescent-road, Worthing, a nephew
