8-CYLINDER CARS. Thirty years have rolled by since the Buick Motor Company built its first automobile. And what a story these years have told, of Buick quality, rollability and capacity to give more and better miles. More than 2,700,000 Buick cars have been produced.. Each year a botter Buick-each built as Buick builds-with the result that more than 47 per cont. of them are still in opera. tion to-day, many having served five, ten, even twenty years. Everyone who knows motor cars knows how these 2,700,000 Buicks have written the proof of Buick quality on the roads of the world. Long ago, Bulck's finer, more faithful performance bo: came an international tradition. Records of Buicks that have gone

200,000 miles or more have become almost commonplace. And favour for Buick. has - In- creased year after year, until to-day more people choose Buick than all ten other eights in its price range combined, and nine out of ten say they will buy Bulcks again. A motor car has to be better to compile 'such a record over a period of thirty

But who wants to drive

So miles an hour

Henry Ford Dearborn, Mich.

The Ford V-8 will go 80 miles an hour. But how many people wish to drive 80 miles an hour?

Hardly any. The speed is there for another purposo. If a car is to bo alert and comfortable and economical at 50 or 60 miles an hour, it should be capable of going faster than that,

A oar, like a man or a horse, should have reserve power to do ordinary things well, without showing strain or offort

When you drive at your usual moderate rate, and yet to keep up that rate your car runs at nearly its top spoed, you are not getting an easy ride, and your engine is not doing an easy job. It is wearing itself out.

That is why the Ford V-8 is built to precision standards and engineered to do 80 honest road miles (not speedometer miles) an hour so that it might go

60 or 70 miles an hour all day with the utmost oase, and with no strain on car or driver.

Let us add, and without excessive use of gas and oil.

It is the margin between what you have and what you use in an engine that makos for comfort, longevity and economy."

It is much safer and far more economical to run 60 or 65 miles an hour in a car built to do 80, than it is to run at the samo speed in a car built to do 65 or 70. There will be no excess no130 no overheating- no heavy laboring -no straining mechanism because there is power in roserve.

The benefits to the customer of having a Ford V-8 able to do 80 miles an hour, are numerous. In the first place, such a car must be extra strongly built.

It must be perfectly poised and balanced.

It must have a bettor stooring gear.

Its whools, springs, axles, frame and brakes must be of the finost strength and design..

In the second place, a car thus built for the higher spoed-rangos proves most alert in the lower spood ranges, In traffic it is not spond you want so much as quickness. You want instant response and quick acceleration. high speed reserve of the Ford V-8 gives you that.

Tho

The advantages of a high speed car are not in the spood alone. You may novor drive at high speed. Few poople do. But to make spood possible, the must be built to last longer, to run smoother, and to use less fuel.

Everything must be up to the 80-miles-an-hour standard to give you super lative performance at the losser spoods.
