THE NORTH
SOME LIKELY LOOKING PONIES
(By "Captain. Foster")
New Derby griffins con- tinue to arrive from the North, and Mr. Pearce has a nice looking Grey stal- lion.
Mr. Ho Kom-long's string has been enlarged by a shapely bay, named Albert Hall, and a most attractive looking Iron grey mare called Victoria Hall. Rumour has it that these twoi ponies are of the highest class.. I also learn that the mare is only rising five years of age and it is
possible that she may not make her debut until the Annual Meeting of 1935.
Flush Not Competing
(By "Captain Foster")
A very attractive programme has been compiled for the meeting which will be held on Sunday next, ind we should ace good racing.. The meeting opens with

Mr. Samson's batch of six griffins have also arrived-1 was Music. The latter I think will get not much impressed with the the verdict and So On aliould fill blood-like appearance of a grey the third position. Likely finish?
mare and a dark brown maro. of the two I prefer the former, but they both look high class racing animale.
"
Messrs. Hall and Shenton also possess a taking griffin, and Mr. Harriman's brown looks a galloper,

NEW YEAR'S EVE PROGRAMME
(By "Cross Country Rider")
The Committee of the Fan- ling Hunt and Race Club have been busy drawing up their racing card for the first meet- ing which will be held at Kwanti on New Year's Eve. The programme, I gather, will provide for five races, three of which will be hurdle races, one steeplechase and one cross try event,

Next week I hope to be able to give you the programme in detail.

CHU KIANG HANDICAP.
First Section,
I had hoped to see an interesting race here but I now learn that Alexandra Hall and Royal Flush will not be competing. In their absence Wakefield should be re- turned the winner, but Jungle Jim and Wonderful Stag are capable I feel sure that Adam will make of extending him. If an upset ia amends
and. expected I think it will be pro-oblige by cantering away with this vided by Gold-Koy..
My selections are:
Wakefield. Wonderful Stag. Jungle Jim.

Second Section.
A close finish should result here between Aida, Darien, Esk, Flying Boy, Just Imagine and African Eve:
On recent performances Esk and Darien have the best credentials, but I am very keen on Alda's chances, and it will not surprise me to see this grey win. African Evo is going well enough to be also concerned with the finish. Prob.
The course is in a splendid con-able placings: dition and a very enjoyable season at the jumping game is anti- cipated.

SUBSCRIPTIONS GRIFFINS FOR THE NEW SEASON
SEVENTY FOUR ANIMAL SHAVE NOW BEEN NAMED BY THEIR OWNERS
(By "Captain Foster")
The list of subscription griffins for next season is much larger com- pared with last year's. There are, in all, 75 animals, all named, as will be seen from the list detailed below. The only exception is that of pony No. 124, the property of Mr.. Hosie who is at present on furlough,
Brand
(By "Captain Foster") My Brat Kavourites disappointed me as only Liberty Bay and Iron Grey were returned winners, but the greatest disappointment of all D. was that my three selected animals for the Glasgow Handicap "B": Class ran unplaced. I did, how- ever, mention, that Dan, Valorous and The Tiger (the oventual win-] nor and placed ponies respectively) would show up prominently.
The race was undoubtedly the best of the afternoon and I think that, as the race 'was run, Valorous was unlucky to lose through getting off badly at the start.
He must have lost close on to half a dozen lengths when tho barrier flew up and was fast over- hauling Don at the finish.
Not Altogether Unexpected
common
Liberty Bay broke the one and half miles record in a canter in the St. Andrew's Stakes and the time is yet far distant before his colours can be lowered. King Salmon, ran a good pony in the Comrie Handicap, B Division but apparently it was just beyond him to concede 20 lbs, to FI FA. In my notes last week I said that he was capable of springing a sur- prise, and his win therefore was |not altogether unexpected.
Tillicum's win was no surprise as I mentioned last week that he would surely give a good account: of himself by being near at the
finish
Frankly, I did not expect Lucy Glitters to win the Cogee Handi- cap. She won, however, most con-
vincingly and the win wha most 'popular.
Weight with the Australians has been a source of interest to me and I think we all now agree that they have shown us that they are not, strictly speaking, weight carriers.
In this connexion, the decision of the Stewards of the Hongkong Jockey Club of further reducing the scale of weight per inches is. unquestionably the correct one.
·
King's Parade was hard put to it to win the Comrio Handicap, A.| Division and Partnership ran ab. game pony to finish so close up as he did not have what one might term a smooth passage during the
race,
The Riders
Mr. Benny Proulx had two com- fortable wins on Lucy Glitters and FI Fa. With a little "Joss" hej would have had a perfect day.If his more fancied mounts in. Alexandra Hall and The Goat ran up to expectations.
Mr. Leo Frost on Liberty Bay and Mr. Butler on Tillicum cach hud an easy ride, so did Mr. Botelho on Iron Grey. Mr. Gus Roza and Mr. Ferdie Soares had to give of their best to win on Don and King's Parade respectively, in the only two races which proditred close enough finishes to keep Mr. Judge Teater actively employed.
Mr. Donald Black made a wel- come appearance in the Inverness Handicap, and finished second on Jingle.
Loss to Local Racing
I was very sorry to hear that Mr. Davis has been transferred to Tientsin and leaves the Colony, to- day. Mr. Davis came here last Summer and started his local.

PONY WHIGH-WON CHATER CUP
Champagne Bay, the popular local racing pony, which carried off the Chater Cup and the Old Course Plate at the annual meeting last year, was destroy- ed this morning.
The pony, which was originally owned by Mr. Dunbar and subso- quently by Messrs. Dunbar and Roidy, was considered to bo too. old for further racing.
A 1931 griffin, the bay had quits a successful career, during which It earned $5,125 for its owners, including $2,550 prior to the de- ginning of 1933.
Originally an "A" Class pony, it was promoted to "B" Class, and met with successes at the Inst annual meeting, when Mr. Hill, the Shanghal Jockey, twice steer--- ed it to victory.
Subsequent to the annual meet- ing the pony, made only two ap pearance on the track, when it earned places. 'Champagne Bay did not race. after March 18 of this year.
