CHINA FLEET LEAGUE
CUMBERLAND NOW
SECOND
The Cumberland take over second place in the first division of the China Fleet league as a result of their win against HMS. Suffolk at Happy Valley yesterday.
The Cumberland won, by three goals to one, and were full valuo for the points.
Botter balanced, they invariably | ,hold the initiative, and It በዚ rarely that the Suffolk looked dangerous.
The thrustful work of the Cum- borland's inside forwards upset the opposing defence, whilst the Suffolk -attack could make little' or no impression on the Cumber land's rearguard.
Torg (2) and Potts neited for the Cumberland, and Jones scored the Suffolk's only point in the first half.
**Teams:-
Cumberland: Potts: Burden and Grant: Kefford, Welsh, and Ward: Spencer, Torg, Potta, Proc- tor and Skinner.
Suffolk:-Pepper: Young and Trugress: Dodda, · MeQuiro, and Cousens; Turner, Smith, “Boy" Jones, White and Lowe.

CHALLENGE
Consolidating Win For H.M.S. Kent
**H.M.S. Kent strengthened their challenge for leadership of the third division of the China Fleet league yesterday when they defeated H.M.Ś. Suffolk by four goals_to_nil at Happy Valley.
At no stage did the Suffolk ap- pear likely to avert defent, and goals came from the flagship at regular intervals.
An outstanding display was given by Cast, the Kent's inside right. who collected three goals. The fourth was credited to Thornton the Suffolk right half, who had the misfortune to put the ball through his own goal,

An attempt to attack Mr. Jeff Dickson, the well known English boxing promoter brought to an ugly end the 12 rounds contest between Midget Wolgast, the American, and Church Jackie Brown, holder of the Mullane -Flyweight Championship of the Welsh ----
world, staged at the Albert Hall last month.
Wolgast won on points, and at the end a score of men from the north, who, it was plain, had backed Brown to win, made a concerted rush and an atttack on Mr. Jeff Dickson, the promoter of the fight.

REFLECTIONS ON LAST WEEK'S LEAGUE MATCHES: TO-MORROW'S; PROSPECTS ANALYSED
(By R. Abbit):
FOR once in a way things went very much as expected in the games played during the last week end. But I am more and more becoming impressed with the punch that lies behind the Army side.' They have a various assortment of batsmen and seem likely to make runs on all occasions.
UNFORTUNATELY like so many Clubs they have only one bowler-Garthwaite. The rest of them--when it is a case of meeting really strong batting--are really no. more than small change..
Last Saturday's game at the K.C.C. rather lustrated all this. Bonavin did not come off, and I have yet to discover why the Shanghai people had| such a high opinion of him.
I expect however it is our camic Hongkong wicket and light that is putting him off and that he will get going later.

I have heard a good deal about Sin clair however. He came off for the Services against Malaya, in a pretty poor show. He was, I believe not kelected against Shanghai and I was told on enquiry that though bat he was not aound. Now again he has come off when the other, more correct batamen falled.

The writer was lucky enough to get a couple of half-volleys and a couple of long hope, but the Prees score of sixty odd was not enough.
But the T.R.C—with a tail—got bit of a fright as Pereira bowed uncommonly well and but for an over in which Mino hit (as I counted) It is interesting as I know several sixteen the LRC. might not have got cases of batsmen who do the right the runs.
