The driver has mado a statement to the Police in which he attributed the mishap to a trick of eyesight.

In the double bond in which the accident took place, white granite chips had recently been laid on that aldo of the left-hand curve visible to the driver as he came uphill. This patch was reflected by a hidden light ahead, and being deceived, he declares, into thinking that it was in the the middle of the roadway, driver swung too far out and came perilously near to shooting over the unprotected embankment. He managed, however, to keep on the rond, but before long was brought up sharply against a tree at the edge.

The impact was taken by the car on its right side, the front mud- guard being smashed and the dash- board and the two doors being ripped away.
