NOTES SUPPLIED BY THE THEATRES
.
A ting gold whistle, attached to a thin gold chails about his wrist, keeps Rouben Mamoutian from worrying, The Young'. Armenian director of stage and screen productions, bis most recent being Maurice Chevalier's
"Love Me To-night” now showing ot the King's Theatro, admits that in this one respect he is superstitious.
Ho's utterly uncomfortable without his whistle. It's a practical thing in that it rendorn a shrill blast, but ho seldom uson it for that purpose. Ha woars It continually, merely as a good- luck charm.
He wore it during the filming of "Love Me To-night," in which Cho- valior is cast as a tailor who falls in love with a young woman of aristo- cratic family, The love affair pro- cred smoothly enough while Maurica poses as a baron, but when his true Identity is revealed, there are sur- prising developments, humorous and romantic bath.
In addition to Chovaller, the cast includes Jeanetto MacDonald, Charlie Hugglos, Charles Butterworth, Myrna Loy and others.

is one of the most entertaining come- dies of the year. "Cracked Nuts," |
at the Queen's Theatre, lives up fully to expectations.
They are given a story packed with original comedy situations and a plot which is considerably more preten- tious than most other stories they have done. Wheeler buys himself a Tt- volution in the beautiful, but thor- oughly
mythical kingdom. of EI Dorania. Simultaneously, Woolney wins the crown through the medium of an "African golf” game. · This far- cical situation pits the comedians against each other in a duel to the death.
Wheeler and Woolsey bring laugha with practically every appearatico throughout the show. Dorothy Lee, rapidly becoming one of the invet clover, engaging and capabio Ingenues. on the screen, lends admirable sup- port. Edna May Oliver, whom char- actorization of "Mr. Wyatı" in "Cimarron" stood out as one of the comedy gems of all time, uns been given antar role well suited to her talents.
"The Happy Ending"
The spectacular opportunities of Ian Hay's emotional story, "The Happy Ending," to-morrow's attruc tion at the Queen's Theatre have been Fully exploited by the director, Mil-
Webb, in the talking picture he as made. He has also handled the more human napeets of husbandly in- fidelities and eventual retribution which form the main development of the story in a very cable manner.

Through the years we accom- pany Cradock in pursuit of his vices, interspersed with interludes of wist- fut longing for his wife until at laat he hears of his daughter's birth- day celebration way back in England, In the closing scenes of the film, the director scures A great thumph with his realism and brilliantly direct ed poignant scenes suggestive of n tragically wasted life that will leave few eyes dry.
Without doubt the highlights of the film are the finely staged presentation of a spectacular wreck in mid-ocean, complete with realistic atmosphere of londed lifebonts, fear-maddened erowds and panic, and the brilliant neting of the three principals, George Parraud, Anne firey and Benia Hume. Particularly in the later scenes the acting reaches a high standard of excellence.
