POPULAR ROOF GARDEN OF HONGKONG HOTEL

Something In the nature of sensation will be created by the appearance at the "Oriental Night" re-opening of the Roof Garden of the Hongkong Hotel on Saturday night of Mr. Martin Cave.
Mr. Cave has appeared exten- sively in America and at Home, and in the former contre is known as the second Al Jolson. During a competition in Los Angeles he ran second to the famous black-faced comedian, whose name became household word with the introduc- tion of the talking pictures.
The management of the Hong- kang Hotel have been no struck with the originality and excellence of Mr. Cave's "act" that they have decided to extend his contract to embrace, not only Saturday night's entertainment, but futuro tea dances. At a special rehearsal yesterday, Mr. Cave was the subject of must favourable comment from assembled critics.
The famous Joy Fun Toy Com- pany of Chinese entertainers, whose marvellous acts proved so sensationally auccessful at the King's Theatre recently, have also been engaged for Saturday nighta gula re-opening of the Roof Garden at the Hongkong Hotel.
Dance music will be supplied by the new Hongkong dance band, The Rovellors", and special dance music will, in addition, be supplied by Joe Futera and his orchestra, which will play all the waltzes.
Altogether, the evening promises
to be one of the social events of the forthcoming senson in long- kong.
CORONER'S INQUEST.
DIVER'S UNTOWARD DEATH IN HARBOUR
The Coroner's inquest into the death of William Ramsay Stevens, who was hauled, lifeless, from the harbour on September 20, was continued before Mr. Schofield yesterday.
Stevena พกษ employed RS 息 diver by the Public Works Depart- ment and was working on the har- bour bed near Blake Pier when his death occurred.
Evidence was given yesterday by Chan Sui and To Kan, fokles working the pump, and Mr. An- drow Nicol, of the Port develop. ment sub-department.
Questioned by the Banch, Mr. Nicol said the surface men were not given, any instructions. This
was usually left to the diver in charge of the gang. Witness did not think there was any necessity for drill nor instructions in first ald. Accidents wcro extremely raro, and he had never, in all his; experience, known of a diver who wanted first aid when brought to the surface.
Answering further questiona, witness said in his opinion the deceased and boen desperate and did not know what he was doing whon ho pulled the helmet from his head. What causes led to this desperation he did not know.
The inquant was further ad- journed, until Wednesday.
