From both the social and diplo matic point of view, the function was eminently successful. Capt. T. A. H. Coltman, A.D.C., attended on behalf of H. E. the Governor. Re- presentatives of every nation with a Consulate in Hongkong were also present, as well as the Colonial Secretary (Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn), the Hon. Mr. W. E. L. Shenton and other members of the Legislative Connell, Commodore. Walker (representing the Navy), Brigadier R. B. Cousens. (repre senting the Army), Sir Joseph Kemp (Chief Justice) and some 200 of Hongkong's most prominent citizens.
The toasts of His Majesty King George (proposed by Mr. T. Yoshida) and the Emperor of Japan (proposed by Sir Joseph Komp) were suitably honoured.

INQUIRY INTO FATAL FALL

The inquiry into the circum- stances attending the death of Tam King-po, who was killed as a result of a fall from the third floor of No. 54 Woosung Street, Yaumati, on Monday, was concluded at the Kow- loon Magistracy yesterday after- noon with Mr. Fraser sitting na Coroner.
After further evidence was given, the Coroner said there was in- sufficient evidence to decide whether the deceased fell off the window or jumped off at his own'
accord, and an open verdict must be returned,
