DRIVER FOUND NOT GUILTY.
A charge of inreeny of a four gallon tin of petrol, a further charge of receiving the petrol knowing it to have been stolen or unlawfully obthined, and a third charge of unlawful possession, were brought against a Chinesu driver formerly in the employ of the P.WD, when he appeared be- fore Mr. Schofield at the Central Police Court yesterday afternoon,
Mr. F. C. E. Rendall, who re- presented the defendant, entered a plea of not gulity.
Detective Sergeant Kennedy pro- secuted. Outlining the case he said that on September 22 last, Mr. E. P. Fletcher made a report to the No. 2 Police Station that petrol was being stolen from P. W. D. lorries by drivers employed by the Government. In conse quence of the report, a detective was detailed to keep a watch on the PW.D. lorries, and at 11.30 am. on September 24 he was in Hennessy Road when he saw the defendant sitting in a P.W.D. lorry | beside the driver, who hud aines
absconded,

The lorry was about to leave imme diately when the driver was stop ped by the Betective. Whilst the detective was speaking to the two then zeirone from the garage Look De fin inside.
