OUTSPOKEN INTERVIEW WITH CAPT. LAURENSON.
The Yuta skipper's version of the collision which resulted in the tragic loss of H. M. Submarine Poseidon has not entirely silenced those who have jumped to con- clusions because the Yuta is a Chinese vessel, and who infer that no accident would have occurred if the steamer had been flying under the British flag.
There is, of course, no evidence of any kind regarding the competency or otherwise of the officers of the Yuta, and in commenting without such knowledge, Hongkong Is perilously near the position of a pot calling a kettle black. Certain
startling revelations regarding, ships which leave Hongkong harbour, flying the British flag, with only one competent navi- gating officer aboard, are made by a correspondent in a morning contemporary to-day, in consequence of which the Telegraph has sought an interview with Captain T. T. Lauren- son, D.S.C., the local Secretary of the Coast Officers Guild.
