The first session of the Chinese- Soviet Conference, called in vir- tue of the Khabarovsk protocol of December 22, 1929, was held yes- terday. The Soviet. delegate, M. Karakhan, addressed the Confer- ence and the Chinese Delegate, Moh Teh-hui, replied.

The Conference discussed the question raised by the Soviet dele- gate of the necessity of and unambiguous recognition of a clear the Khabarovsk protocol (regard- lag the Chinese Eastern Railway) by the Chinese.

LIFT TRAGEDY.

FATAL MISHAP OCCURS IN

One Chinese worker was killed ind another badly injured in a lift mishap which occurred in China Building yesterday. afternoon shortly before four o'clock when the counterpoise weight of the lift collapsed and crashed on to the lift on the top of which two Chinese were working.
