SWEEPING PROPOSALS OF TARIFF BOARD,

Simla, Sept. 11. The report of the Tariff Board on the salt industry in India ro- commends that the Government develop the sources of supply and introduce stability prices by as- suming control of the import of salt to Bengal, which is now in private hands.

The report also suggests the establishment of a public utility company, with a limited rate of profits, which would be constituted as a marketing board and would have charge of the import and sale in North India.

There would be permanent Government representation on the Board, as a safeguard against the

profiteering or Board's ciency-Renter.

Mr. Nicholson, the Shamrock's de signer, who is a guest of Mr. Starling Burgess, the designer of the Enter prise, had his first view of the de- fender out of the water; and this is further evidence of the cordiality characterising the relations of the personnel of the competing yachts.

It is learned authoritatively, that the four yachts built for the defence of the Cup cost not over half a million dollars each, fully equipped. The Enterprise, which cost $630,000, was the most expensive to build.--Reuter's American Service.
