immense value in informing the public of revisions, but the task of the newspapers would be immense ly simplified if the actual effects of any changes made were explained in footnotes. This is done in regard to new Ordinances, by a statement of Objects and Reasons, but a like the practice is not followed in mätter of regulations.
There is one other point which might be mentioned, especially in view of the pending appointment of Retrenchment Committee. We refer to the practice of printing all manger of notifications in the Gazette and then having them re- printed again in separate form in order that they may be laid on the Council table. This strikes us as wholly unnecessary, and a waste of public funds. It would probably be found, also, that there are other res pects in which economy in printing and in the use of stationery, etc, could easily be practised.
The Atlantic Flight.
The crossing of the Atlantic from west to east by aeroplanes has lost much of the fascination it once possessed by reason of the fact that the feat has been accomplished on several occasions. The punishment Heaven imposed upon Matthias was a terrible one, for every subsequent Christmas Eve the sleigh bells sounded once again through all the corridors of his imagination, and he was driven full migh mad with horror.
