FAMOUS ACTOR ENGAGED AT LEE THEATRE.
Mr. Chan Fei-nung, the leading female impersonator of the South China stage, headed a strong cast of famous Chinese actors in a recent production "Pak Shuen Fung," which was presented for the first time in the Colony at the Lee Theatre, East Point, last night, and was warmly applauded by the large audience.
Many Chinese songs were writ- ten specially for the famous Chin- ese actor, which suited the appear- ance and voice of this female im- personator remarkably, while the scenes and the costumes showed most effective and colourfol de- signs.
Critics of Chinese musical plays have expressed the opinion that Mr. Chan Fei-nung compares favour- ably with the famous North China actor, Mei Lan-fang, who toured the American continent recently with considerable success.
at
Chan Fei-mang will appear the Lee Theatre for a short season before the expiration. of his con.
tract with the Sun Chun Chow musical company, which will short ly close for the summer vacation. Europeans who desire to witness high-class Chinese drama should pay the theatre a visit.
according to a Japanese report A Shanghai message states that
from Tientsin Mr. Lenox Simpson called on the Commissioner of Cus- toms, Lt. Col. Hayley-Bell, this morning and requested him to hand over the Customs administration.
