Presiding at the annual meet- ing of the British Legion (Hong kong and South China Branch) at the ninth annual general meet ing in Messrs. Jardine Matheson's board room, yesterday afternoon. Mr. F. W: James announced that although Poppy Day receipts for 1929 were more by $186.27 than in the previous year, the fall in ex- change resulted in a smaller re- mittance to England to the extent of 5256 28. 9d.

Colony, for their readiness to assist us whenever possible. this connexion to-day's leader in the Daily Press is particularly opportune.
To Help the Needy.
In
I have heard it said that the British Legion is a "self-glorify- ing" organization but nothing could be further from the truth. It exists solely for the benefit of ex-service men and women and to belp the service in general. In short, it is an organization to help those who through stress of cir- cumstances, need assistance,
The Hongkong branch had 110: members resident in the Colony during the year under review. I regret to say that a large num- ber have not yet paid their suba- criptions and I would ask that- reccive this little matter should their attention as soon as pos- sible.
With regard to the Legion Book, special appeal recently appeared in the press by the Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, Officer Administering the Government asking people to take copies of this book. I would be very pleased if any members who require other copies, or whe have not already obtained one would get in touch with the secre- tury. They cost one guinea, plus postage, a shilling extra.
