THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH. MONDAY, MÀY 12,
CELEBRATION AT THE CLUB LUSITANO.
ANNIVERSARY OF THE MUTUAL HELP ASSOCIATION,
In celebration of the fifteenth year of the local Portuguese Mutual Help Association, na "at Home" was held at the Club Lusitano on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large attendance. The history of the Association was out- lined at some length by Mr. V. S. Soares, President. Among those present, in addition to the Presl- dent, were Mr. C.A. da Roza (acting Portuguese Consul) and Mrs, da Roza, the Hon. Mr. J. P. Brags, Mr. Leo D'Almada, senior, Mr. Les D'Almada, junior, Mr. J. A. D'Almada, (secretary), naval re- presentatives from the Portuguese cruiser, Adamastor, and members of the Catholic Union.
Mr. V. F. Soares spoke of the conditions prevailing at the time the Association was commenced, in October, 1913, when Europe was in the throes of the greatest war in history. The formation of the As- sociation at that time, he said, was criticised because of the difficulties that had to be surmounted but the fact that it had carried on for 15 years and was still going strong sufficiently answered those crities.
