FOUR-TON LOAD OF
BEEF STOLEN.
WHAT WILL THE THIEF
DO WITH IT?
What does a man do with four tons of stolen beef?
Is there some mysterious "fence" who will buy from n meat thief the proceeds of his burglary?
THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH. FRIDAY, APRIL 25, 1930.
Those were questions that worried Smithfield meat market, for un entire van-load of £300 worth of chilled beef was stolen from outside a cold storage house, "There are periodic small thefts of meat from the market, but this is the first time that I have ever heard of a complete van-load being stolen," was the comment made to the Daily Chronicle by a member of Messrs. Sansineva, the firm to which the beef was being delivered.
"We are all puzzled as to how the thief will get rid of the meat. It will keep for no longer than a week unless it is 'taken direct into cold storage.
One man at the market suggest- ed that perhaps the load had been driven direct to a steamer on the river and shipped before there was. any hue or cry.
"We don't know of any place where the meat could be sold, orį where it could be kept until ány-] one could get rid of it," he said. "An ordinary small dealer would take days selling a load of that

WOMAN'S WORLD
FOR OUR LADY READERS.
A flattering black panamalac hat for the black daytime dress effects a charming compromise in its wide brim, by having one side wide and pleated and the other shorter but slightly full and waving with a. bow of satin ribbon marking ita outer edge at the side back. Its shallow crown and the way its brim is draped to lift off the forehead are two of the outstand- ing style facts of the new hats,

Georgette.
FOR ALL OCCASIONS.
The whole world has gone georgette mad. Not content with the introduction of a more intricate and elaborate style-festa than we have been treated to, La Mode chooses to express her subtleties in that soft, most pictureseque of all fabrics, lovely, lissome georgette.
And she shows no discrimination, restricts this new charmingness to no particular domain. The gown for morning wear, for the street, for formal evening occasions, and for afternoon wear, must be in georgette, to be amart.
You will find the smart woman donning a
for georgette dress lunch or afternoon, in colours that vie with the tender colourings of spring and the brilliant hues of jewels.
