A PRETTY WEDDING.
WELL-KNOWN - PORTUGUESE
FAMILIES UNITED,
A very pretty wedding was cele- brated yesterday afternoon at the Rosary Church, Kowloon, the contracting parties being Miss Julia Soares, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. P. de V. Soares, and Mr. Carlos M. Correa of Shanghai. The popularity of the bride and bridegroom was evidenced by the large gathering at the Church, which was beautifully decorated by friends, and subsequently at the reception held at the residence of Mr. F. P. de V. Soares, at Homuntin, where over four huu- dred guests were present.
H.E. the Governor of Macao wes represented by his A.D.C., Captain Majer. Amongst the guests pre- sent were also the Commander and Officers of the Portugueso cruiser. Adamastor.
Mr, CA, da Roza, acting Con- sul General for Portugal, was the bride's sponsor, while Mr. A. A. R. telho, Consul for Nicaragua. stood for the groom.
The bride's father is well known in the Colony for the interest he takes in all matters concerning building, agricultural and other developments.
The ceremony was conducted by Father Spada, and the bride, who was given away by her father, look ed charming in a georgette and lace dress which was made by Mme. Chiffon, and carried a bouquet of white carnations and roses. She was attended by three bridesmaids, the Misses Milie Encarnação, Ena Danenberg and Celeste Figueiredo, who wore yellow georgette dresses and leghorn hats to match, and carried bouquets of yellow dahlias.
The bride's mother wore a dress of black georgette trimmed with lace and a black crinoline hat; whilst the matron-of-honour, Mrs. G. V. da Silva, was dressed in yellow georgette with a leghorn hut to match.
Following the reception, the happy couple left for Repulse Bay, and will later proceed to Macao, Canton, and finally Shanghai, at which place they will reside. The bride's going-zway dress was of flowered georgette with fawn coates, and fawn hat to match.
The couple received many beauti- ful and useful gifts, and a number of telegrams of felicitation were sent by friends in the Far East.
DEALER FINED FOR CRUELTY.
PIG SEVERELY INJURED IN TRANSIT.
What was described as a very bad case of cruelty was mentioned before Mr. Whyte Smith, at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday,. when a Chinese was charged with causing needless and avoidable suffering to a pig which was keverely injured about the body on account of the manner in which it was transported from Taing to Mongkok.
Sub-Inspector Chester Woods intimated that the defendant, who
a pig dealer, had sent consignment of ten pigs to Mong-

The defendant was fined $10.

lowest note and that is money, Whatever Church you belong to requires money for ordinary up- keep, such as wages, lighting, music, etc., and it has to be kept going whether you are there or not, just like a Club. One doesn't pay for a Club only when one uses! it. You pay whether you go or not. I can't imagine that in this Club they send the hat round when they want a new chair or two. Yet that is exactly what happens in many churches. They are always in debt, and very largely, because their members won't go to Church with any sort of regularity, so they don't pay,

B. I. Apcar Line steamers have excellent accommodation for 1st and 2nd class passengers. All steamers are fitted with wireless and carry a qualified surgeon.
I would sum up in this way: Firstly, as a Christian, you have a feeling of reverence or worship of God. It is not aufficient to express this in private only or as some SHIRALA people say: I can worship Him TAKLIWA in the open amongst the beauties TILAWA of Nature. Of course you can, or TAKADA anywhere else: In your office, in the street, or in your bath, but it is not enough. By doing 90 In Church you are doing something) positive and publicly to counter the mass of apathy, indifference, and even active opposition to good that exists in the world. And you are allying yourself to others who are doing the same thing, and Union is Strength. The effect of your goodwill is immeasurably increas- ed by this alliance with others."
In explaining that he wished the subject to be freely discussed Mr. Handley Derry, H.B.M. among those present, in order that Consul General at Chungking, and it might be instructive, Colonel Mr. Toller, the new Consul at Wyatt concluded by saying, “T Chengtu, who were aboard, were didn't invent Church-going and I transferred to a steamer and have am not the greatest living au- proceeded to their destinations.thority of that, or any other Reuter.
