FOR HOME.
COLONY CRITICISED IN INTERVIEW.
Among those to leave to-day by the 8.8. Malwa for Home is Dr. Alexander Cannon, who, since 1927, has been in medical charge of Victoria Gnol and the Public Mortuary and who has also been on the staff of the University.
Dr. Cannon is, we understand, retiring from the Government service to better his position, but his departure is much regretted by a wide circle of friends, who will join us in wishing him every
success.

especially in relation to beri-beri. Hanoi was the next place of study and here, for some months a survey of the common diseases was made, particular interest being taken in beri-beri and "spargenome." After a very dangerous route to Lungehow, Dr. Cannon settled there for some time and was busy with research, and having also a deep interest in local missionary activities, as well as official ones, being Physician Extraordinaire to His Excellency the Governor, General Hu Toung Tu, who showed a very friendly and interested attitude in the work which was being carried out for the first time in these distant inaccessible parts of China with regard to medical research. When Dr. and Mrs. Cannon left] Lungchow, an official feast was pre- pared in their honour, at which the high officials and the Com- missioner of Customs, Chev. M. Cupelli, made farewell speeches. Mr. Van Den Bergh, in the name of the Standard Oil Company of | New York, very kindly conveyed the two travellers together with Pierce Croque up to Taipingfu by boat, and later to Nanning where they met General Wong and his staff, and Mr. Hosking, the Com- missioner of Customs, who kindly acted as host for a lang period, owing to lack of accommodation elsewhere at that time.
At Nanning.
In speaking of Nanning, Dr. Cannon says that Dr. Coffin and the Rev. Mr. Thomas, of the American Mission, were very kind and were doing a great good to the community in running the only up-to-date hospital where operations were performed daily under a first

Farewell Interview.
In the course of an interesting interview Dr. Cannon said that pro- crastination is the curse of Hong- kong, a curse from which even the Government is far from being exempt. No man should stay in class organised the Far East for more than three locally trained staff, a work which years at a stretch and a ten days' would put aome hospitals in Hongkong to shame. The build-holiday locally is a wise precau- tion against ill health, every ings were of the latest, and of size in accordance with the funds needed and also a
year. A new gaol is urgently:

No. 6
A gas cooker gives quick service. The burners are instantly lighted, and once alight rapidly heat the oven or the vessels placed on the hot plate. Owing to the perfect regulation of the heat a gas cooker can be made to cook as slowly as other fuels-If desired; but most housewives prefer speed in cooking especially at breakfast time--and they certainly appreciate the quickness with which water can be boiled over the gas ring,
There are no delays when you cook by gas.
May we fx you a modern Gas Cooker on hire-purchase terms? You may name your own instalments if desired. Cookers also fixed on hire at $1.00 a month and sold for cash.
