OIL STEAMER BLOWN UP IN HARBOUR.

.

TRAPPED CREW LEAP FOR LIFE.

London, Nov. 26.

The oil-tank. steamer British Chemist blew up last night in Grangemouth Harbour on the Firth of Forth, west of Edinburgh --shaking the whole town. There were three explosions, and then the vessel bursi into flames. The shock was felt at Falkirk, three miles away.

The vessel arrived from Abadan, in the Persian Gulf, on Sunday with 10,000 tons of crude oil, which was being discharged when the explosions took place..

George Winter and George Brew, both members of the crew, were taken to the infirmary seriously in- jured.

Flames rose to a great height and sent out a lurid light into the sky, visible for miles around, on both sides of the Forth.

Widespread Shock.

was overcome.
