THE STELLA POLARIS. IN HONGKONG.
Her white lines gleaming in the morning sunlight, the M.Y. Stella Polaris, which reached Hongkong on Tuesday, was admired by, the whole city as she proudly made her way to Kowloon wharf.
The lovely white steamer seems to typify the dreams of millions In the atmosphore of luxury and wealth, which she radiates. On spotless decks one conjures up visions of untold fortunos and considers that this is just the sort of vacht he would build for him- 'self if only he could, procure the
means to do so.
Contrary to the belief of many. the Stella Polaris was not criein. ally built for some fabulous mil- lionaire and later purchased for pleasure cruises. She was built three yeara ngo for her owner," the B. & N. Company of Norway and was specially designed as a purely tourist ship. For a tourist ship the "Stella Polaris carries comparatively few passengers. The absolute limit is. 199 persons and this the com- pany will never exceed. One dis- covers the reason for this when one is shown the large and air cabins on the yacht. It is doubt ful if the ordinary first class cabins on any other vessol in the world are as big as those of thus Stella Polaris, Most of them have private bathrooms, but those which are not Bo equipped де served by a bathroom. to every three staterooms. At present the Stella Polaris is carrying 70 passengers on a Far Eastern tour. Among the travel lers is Mr. E. Phillips Oppenheim. the famous novelist who is enjoy ing a pleasure trip.
