The Pacific coastal steamer San Juan, which recently want to the bottom & few minutes after it was struck by the Standard Oil tanker 8.0.T. Dodd'in heavy fog off the Santa Cruz, Calif., coast. Seventy passengers and members of the crew were drowned.
Throngs of relatives, hoping against Hope that their loved ones were safe, were thrown" into a panic when they found this line of ambulances waiting at the dook as the tanker S. C. D. Dodd approached a San Francisco pfer with the first survivors of the San Juan wreck.

The Standard Oil tanker B.C.T. Dodd, which rammed the passenger steamer San Juan off the California coast, and sent the San Juan to the bottom with a heavy life loss. The tanker stood by, rescued many survivors from the water and took them to San Francisco,

One of the saddest of the tragedies connected with the sinking of the San Juan was the return of Hollie Pfeiffer, 6, whose mother handed him over to members of the crew se the vessel began to sink. The mother was never found.. The child is shown between a hospital steward and his grand-

In honour of the new Commander of the French Far Eastern squadron, Rear-Admiral · Georges Mouget, a reception was recently hold at the Franch Consulate-General Shanghai. Cadol, Vice-Consul; and Lieutenant de Vaisseau de Bryan, ordnance officer.
