UTUMN clothes are varied and versatile, distinguished fook-

Aing and elegant., feminine and smart.

College girls will revel in the soft loveliness of the ward- robes fashion offers them for styles súll favor the fine, lithe, college girl figure.

To be sure gowas are fuller, more intricate, given to greater length and more decoration, but still, somewhere along the line, all of the more correct costumes accent the slender silhouette..

The college girl's wardrobe trunk should contain at least a couple of the most wearable types of frock, those that are distinctive, of good line and excellent material and workmanship, built for chic and endurance.

Next, there should be at least one fine serviceable tweed top coat. This should have a fur collar, preferably, or else be one of these extremely smart cloth coats that arrives at distinction because of its workmanship and fabric, not because of its trim...

For the girl who cannot afford many frocks, the chic black party frock is an excellent choice. Made on youthful lines, with daz zling touches of brilliant trimming, it sets off her youth to ad- vantage, can be worn again and again without anyone's remember- ing each time it has appeared and stands up under many parties with a staunchness that does it credit..

Then, for lunch in lawn, for matinees, for aftemoon parties and faculty teas, every college girl should have one afternoon costume, that is made of velvet, fine crepe, satin. brocade or broadcloth that. with beautiful accessories, to give her that feeling of perfect este. Sports frocks musi be taken along, too. This season the college girl must have a pleated wool skirt or two, a tuck-in angora wool Blouse and some kind of decorative cardigan or slip-over, sweater

that is colorful, youthful and pretty,

BLACK crepe fashions the black autumn dress, at the upper

left, that is excellent for its charm and wearableness. I has" touches of pink at its throat and cuffs, a fact of fashion that every black frock should note. It is not the all-black, but the black and delicate color combination that is chic now,

This Jean Patou frock illustrates one of the new notes of fash ion, diagonal pleating. Both its front and its back features fine diagonal pleats that are a true decorative touch to flounce depth and then ftare into fullness that Milady neces this autumn.

This frock has a charming collar and double lie arrangement wing pink linen with the black. The flared cuffs cading the long sleeves have pink linen cuffs, inside them, too. Both the collar and ties and the cuffs are removable for that laundering that all lingerie touches demand quite often. A black patent leather belt girdles the frock and a stunning black felt and pink crocheted wool hat tops it, a hat with a tight crown and a faring, scalloped brim.

This Dressy Afternoon Frock of Curtant Red Crepe. Created by Mesdemoiselles de Saint Claire, Has Many Points of Tremendous Chic and Beauty..

An Ingenious Hemline Slender Sleeves Front Fullness A Jaunty Scarf at the Neck

It is a model from Mesdemoiselles de Saint Claire and shows much ingenuity in its hemline. The manner in which it intro- duces fullness by front, side and back narrow panels of pleats is also new.

Its sleeves are long and narrow, buttoning clear to the elbow with very tiny buttons of the red crepe and loops of the same fabric. The neckline has a charming scarf that ties on one shoulder.

Perfect accessories for this are the twin fox scarf, the new off- the-forehead turban of gleaming black and, the elaborate black quilted bag with its little monogram in brilliants on one side.

EXQUISITELY youthful and still very practical is the black faille taffeta evening gown, created by Bruyere, shown at the upper right. It is fitted by the use of many gores into a perfect princess line with great flare beyond the hipline.

Its extremely full skirt is edged with a deep flounce of black tulle, so that it really touches the floor all around in charmingly youngish-old manner and yet still seems quite short. The neckline. is shallow in front. But a note of sophistication appears in its strass embroidered shoulder straps and in the elaborate embroidery in strass that decorates and outlines the rear decolletage.

With this the young girl of college age should wear brilliant slippers, perhaps cardinal red ones, with heels of strass.

FOR a beginning "wearable" frock, the college girl may find the

autumn dress from Tollmann (right, center) in high layer. It is of the new, fine and firm black jersey, trimmed in novel, and charming manner in black braid. Its line, trim, and entire char- acter is very new and stunning.

In the first place it features the close round neck, similar to a "crew" sweater. There is a little round yoke to emphasize this. and the waist portion is slightly full where it joins the yoke.

The natural waistline and the fitted silhouette is achieved by means of several fitted bands, each joined to the other with black" braid for emphasis. There is a complicated skirt that looks simple and straight-line. It has a foundation of a plain skirt, made wrap- around for fullness.

Over this three separate loose panel skirts fall, each panel edged with the braid. The sleeves are tight and long and have a touch of striped silk for their decoration, of crepe de chine in a 'charming black, green and white pattern. A scarf of this is attached to one- shoulder and can be worn in any manner that the wearer desires.

tweed cost in beige and red illustrated at the right,

It emphasizes the new silhouette, with side closing, one pocke and a decided flare, to the skirt portion after the waist is fitted snugly. Its sleeves, too. lare slightly.

The coat is belted and trimmed with rich nutria. The little hat, which makes a charming accompaniment, is of a shade to match the coat's red fecking.
