LINER TRAGEDY.

HONGKONG CAPTAIN JUMPS INTO SEA.

Penang, Sept. 2- When the N. Y. K. Hukozak! Maru was three miles west of Keppel har bour, Singapore, on her

way to Ponang, on Friday at 1 p., Captain Herbert Edmund Woodstack, late of the Mercantile Navy, an Englishman, 31 years of age, who was a second class passenger from Hongkong to London, Jumped overboard (It is alleged from the starboard side of the poop deck.

A little English girl, who was playing on the deck, was the only witness of the tragedy,

The other passengers were at lun- choon in the dining saloon below.

The girl child raised an alarm and within ten minutes a boat was sent out to scour the sea for the unfortun- ate man, but by that time he had probably found a grave beneath the waters over which he had, in years gone by, navigated his ship.
