ROUND THE WORLD.

BIG GERMAN LINER TO

VISIT HONGKONG.

Preparations have now been com pleted by Messra, Raymond and Whit combe for a round-the-world tour by the a.s. Columbus which, until Low

months ago, when the Bremen (which has since won the "Blue Riband" of the Atlantic from the Mauretania) and the Europa were completed, was the largest German steamer afloat.

The Columbus is at present running hetween Brenton and New York. She

will continue on this run until wh beginning of next year, when she will leave New York on her round-tho- world cruise, cross the Atlantic, pass through the Suez Canal to Asia, call at Hongkong on her way to Japan, from where the will cross the Pacific, through the Panama Canul and back to New York again..

Due here at 7 a.m. on March 18 from Manila, she will siny'in port for two days, learing for Keeling on March 20. We understand from the local agents of Norddeutscher Lloyd, Menara Melchers, that there will be 450 on board, including the crew.

Largest Ship Here

With a gross tonnage of 32,354 and a nett tonnage of 16,829, the Colum bus will be the largest vessel that has been to Hongkong. Her dimen- sions are length 749.6 feet, beam 33.1 feet and depth 40.4 feet. Like the other big tourist ships that have been here, aho will not be able to tie up alongsite Kowloon Wharf, but will berth midstream at Buoy Ai.
