TSIN WAN WATER.

CONTINUOUS SUPPLY TÒ...

BE TAPPED.

The latest development in the water shortage situation cab po scen nine miles out along the Castle Park Rond, where work is in progress to tap fresh water which runs continuously from Tein Wan Valley bills. It is believed that this water is to be transport- ed to Hongkong by means of boats, Yesterday afternoon, a Press representative paid a visit to the scene and found the work full swing, but details of the scheme were not available owing to Government offices being closed After passing through Tein Wan The valley is seen a short distance further on to the right. The place where the work is in pro gress is near the big bridge under which sea water runs in for a ahert distance until it meets fresk water among some big rocks. It is not known at present whether any 'attempt will be made to make a dam here and utilise this water but this does not seem likely be cause a large supply is available from a tributary stream further up the valley and it is with the object of securing this water that the present work is being done.

Continuous Supply.

I

Up to the present this stream, which, as far as can be ascertain ed, never dries up, has run to a spot about half a mile from the rond. Here there is a water mill and the villagers have dammed up the stream and cut a channel so that the water can run on to the

wheel of a water mill, afterwards rumming along another channel over a matter mill wheel,

and then into the sea water in the estuary mentioned.

Yesterday afternoon Chinese labourers had nearly finished the half mile trench from the water mill to the road and at about three o'clock the first pipe was being carried up the hillside. These pipes are about two feet in diame- ter, but those which will take the water from the road to the pier are smaller, being one foot. Mr. Ramany Macdonald, how ever, in an interview with the Daily Herald stated that Mr. Bald- win ought not to lose time in tell. ing the country what he is going to do. He claims that Labour is the only alternative Government. "It holds the initiative and means to keep it."

The Conservative Morning Pont foresees a Labour-Liberal coali- tion, all the preparations for which have been carried out in public speeches under a smoke screen of mutual abuse. The newspaper says the only consideration which will prompt Mr. Baldwin to remain in office is consideration for the Royal eick bed.

The Liberal Daily Chronicle docs not see a motive for Mr, Baldwin's resignation within a month, which will provide a respite during which the leaders of the three parties can discuss the situation.

Mr. Baldwin's Dilemma.

On the contrary, a very large body of Conservatives demand that the Premier at least meet Parliament and compel Mr. Lloyd George to declare his policy for or against, or abstention from assist- ing the Government. It is argued that this would force the Liberals to pledge themselves to a definite
