The Coroner pointed out to the jury that if the Police were to be. believed then the man must have
had some motive for saying that he had been gambling.
In answer to a question sug- gested by Mr. Bennett, witness said that the description of the two, men who escaped tallied with that of two men, who were want- ed by the Police for a murder which had taken place in the Yau- Kati typhoon shelter. Detective Inspector Fallon was called and in reply to the Coroner as to why the picket was put on, said, that on October 8 two men engaged . In reply to the Coroner, witness said that robberies were now on the increase.
Referring to the dredging opera. tions which proved fruitless, wit- ness said that any small object would be hard to pick up.
The evidence having concluded, the Cordner addressed the jury on the law governing shooting by Police officers, After pointing ou That it had been explained when Police officers were justified in firing, the Coroner said that it was not established that it was legal for the Police to fire to stop a man who was suspected of a mis- demeanour.
