PICKETS VERY ACTIVE.
Hankow, Jan. 12. Friday evening passed without incident, but the picketing continues outside the Japanese Concession.
The Japanese have moved one river opposite the gunboat up Nisshin Kisen Kalaha's godowns in Special Administrative District No. 2. The staffs of most of the Japanese firms are now inside the Japanese Concession, the authori ties apparently considering the situation to be very serious al- though things are, outwardly, quiet.
A number of students were arrested in the French Concession distributing anti-Japanese leaflets. They were later released following on representations by the Commis- sioner of Foreign Affairs.

The pickets are again very active and are preventing Chinese from entering the Japanese Concession, although they are not interfering with Japanese passers-by. A num- ber of Chinese dwellers have moved out of the Concession which inside presents a deserted appear ance. There are few people about except police and marines.

New York, Jan. 12. Lively scenes were experienced on the rubber exchange following violent and unexpected rise in prices in London. The advance brought a flood of buying orders, all trading records being broken.

The Japanesa to-day erected a barbed wire fence all along Hua- chingkal, at the rear of the con cession, completely cutting off the native section. Entrance to the concession is possible by the gaten only, all of which are guarded by marines.
The exodus of Chinese from the concession continues, and picket-j ing outside the concession goes on unabated, but Chineze only are held up, and Japanese are severely left alone. There has been no in- eldent, and the pickets seem very careful to avoid trouble with the Japanese guards, keeping at all times
