ABOUT. JEWELLERY.

SMART CRYSTAL.:

As our clothes tend to be softer and more elaborate in outline thia' winter, you would expect jewellery to, take a back seat, or, at least, no longer to be as important as it was on our severely plain garments:

But not a bit of it. Jewellery is more chic than ever, but there is one distinction, it must have. It must be new! It can be made of jewels, semi-jewels, sham jewels, glass, enamel, steel, wood-or aluminium-how light and practi- cul for the first dozen or two of one's bracelets' in the evening: you could put some diamond ones on the top.

However, if you are too con- ventional for these movelties, and just want to wear the smart jewellery of the moment, you must give away your really "popularly" priced pearls, which are no longer the last word by several paragraphs.

You can wear amber, crystal, chrysoprase, cornelian, lapis or any similar atone in the daytime, Jade, Tesist of course, one never can wearing if one has it, but crystal is what smart women are buying just now more than anything else. It is good style and becoming, it has never the trashy look we've begun to associate with imitation pearls, and it "goes" with "any- thing.

The gold flexible "chains which! were so smart in the spring have been rather done to death by cheap

imitations,

Grey jade, worn with grey frocks, is very, very chle now, and too rare and expensive to become common.

"New Wine" holds the attention from start to finish, and is intensely human and real. I have a quarrel with the ending; personal but that is entirely matter, and you may not agree with me. If you have read any other novels by this author, you will not need my advice to read "New Wine" whereas if "New Wine" is your first, you, will cer-
