BRITISH AND ITALIAN CONTEST AT VENICE,

London, Sept. 24.

Much interest is evinced on the ove of the Schneider Cup race at Venice in which three British and three Italian seaplanes will com peto. The triangular course is to be seven times, u total length own of 218 miles.

The British machines are reputed to be faster than the Italian, but the lies result will largely depend on the skill in negotiating the sharp turns at a speed of about 300 miles an hour,

Two clowns from the Navy and an excellent band from H.M.S. Durban contributed to the general enjoyment, the former, by their antics which did hot fail to amuse the children, and the music latter by a programme of during the intervals between the events, and at the end of the sports, when dancing was indulged in."

Mrs. L.II.Y. Booth gave away the prizes.

ת

Mr C.G. Perdue, who is the Hon. President of the Sports Committee, expressed his thanks to those whose presence hnd contributed to the suc cess of the meeting, even though, for some, it had meant a fall into the water, much against their will. It was good, however, to see so many young fellows of the Force splashing
