THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH,

NEW ZEALAND TO-DAY.

BISHOP OF LONDON'S IMPRESSIONS.

The Bishop of London, in a let- ter to the Times, written from R. M. S. Maunganui, describes his stay in New Zealand. The letter is as follows:

"You will love New Zealand when you get there," so every one said, and so we did. Whether it is the brilliant sunshine, or the hospitality of the people, or the sporting char. acter of the rainbow trout that most impresses the visitor depends a little bit on the character and tastes of the visitor himself, but so far as I was concerned all of them appeal- ed to me.

It was re- freshing to come to a place which was neither too hot nor too cold, and where they expected a sunny day. At the same time we were told that they did not always get one, and were especially warned of the folly of the migrants who sell their greatcoats before starting and part with their old clothes,.. whereas they want their greatcoats just as much as in England and their old clothes to start upon any job which they may find going on arrival. But I will come back to the migrant in a moment.

Meanwhile, do let me dwell upon the hospitality of the people of New Zealand and their loyalty to the Old Country. When I heard that the Duke and Duchess of York were going to visit New Zealand at the same time, 1 nearly cut out 'Now Zealand for fear of being de trop; but I am very glad I did not, as the hearts of New Zealanders were big enough for everybody from the Old Country, and the im- mense meetings which I addressed,
