With the interport series 'having n disastrous end for Shanghai, there was still sparkling tennis to be watched to-

To start the afternoon Kuwa- bura took on the second singles player of the Waseda team, Kawa- jiri.. The Shanghai player lost in Avo sets, 7-6, 10-8, 2-6, after a strenuous hard hitting game. Kewajiri used a splendid repertoire of strokes, but everything came pack with a lot of space. Kawn Jiri strikes one as a better doubles player us his favourite chop stroke off the ground is not very effective.. At the net, however, he is a differ- ent man and his hard smashing and elever placements were deciding factors, Kuwaderi-ext ed rounds of applause for several Ilghtning drives which passed his volleying opponent down the side lines. The first set went to Wase- da after a ding dong struggle in which Kawajiri always had the advantage.
