NOVEL SCHEME FOR VIENNA TRAFFIC.
THE LAND OFFICE.
REPORT FOR LAST YEAR,
The report of Mr. Philip Jacks, the Land Officer, for 1925 states that there was a decrease in the number of deada registered in the Land Omeo during the year 1925 las compared with the two preced-.. ing years, which was due to the continued dopresalon in the pro- porty market and to the abnormal- conditions which existed in the Colony during the last six months of the year. Towards the end of the year there was a slight, re- covery and the total amount of res gistration done during tho year eventually reached a point which was normal in the years before the boom in house property. During the year 1925, 4,226 deeds..... and documents were registered affecting 5,463. lots of land. The total consideration
sales mortgages surrenders and mis- cellaneous documents amounted to $114,166,092
on
GRANTE OF LAND,
The total area of land granted on case during the year was 809 acres of which 618 neres were dealt with by the District Officers. The total area resumed was 475. cres; the excess of land granted over Innd resumed during the year being 330 acres. This is oxclusive. of quarries and lands let for short terms under temporary permits issued by the Public Works Department.
SURRENDERS.
One hundred and fifty six deeds whereby one hundred and eighty. lots were surrendered, to the Crown were prepared, and 'regis- tered in the Land Office. The majority of these related to lots which were required for public: improvements including practical- ly the whole-of-the-village-of- Wongneichong which has now dis- appeared. In many cases new. lots have been granted in exchange for the lots which have been surrendered. Sums amouating to over one million dollars have passed through the hands of the Land Officer and been paid as com- pensation.
LEASES AND FEES."
The number of Crown Leases issued during the year was 178. The total amount of feas collected by stamps (exclusive of the New Territories) during the year was $75,056.75 being $26,541.60 less than the previous year. Land registration fees in the New Territories amounted to $5,821.45 and Crown Lease fees to $120.00
Stamp Duty paid on registered documents exclusive of Probates and Letters of Administration amounted to $394,486.95 Stamp Duty on. Probates and Letters of Administration registered amount- ed to $1,001,607.50.
CROWN RENT ROLLS,
The Crown Rent Roll for Hong- kong and Kowloon and the Village Crown Rent Roll were revised. during the year. The total num ber of lots on the Hongkong and Kowloon roll was 5,178, an in- crease of 80 on the preceding year. Crown Rent, amounted to $670,122.39 a decrease of $8,922.95 which is mainly accounted for by, the surrender of some large lots in Junk Bay.
