Two of the largest ocean terminals of the pier type. in the world are owned and operated by the Port of Seattle,
These two piers, each approximately one-half mile in length, one 310 feet wide and the other 365 feet wide, represent the last word in terminal efficiency,
Over a million tons of freight has been handled over Smith's Cove Pier 40 in one year alone; with a dispatch and economy that would have been impossible on any existing pier in other ports.

There werd regrettable circum ataitees connected with the inter- ment of the remains of tho, late Mr. Blakey, of, the Royal Naval Dockyard, yesterday. The core- mony was timed to commence at 15 pm, but It was not until 6.30.
p.. that it took place.
We are-informed that all ir- rangements for the provision of a hearse had been made, and, nt the appointed hour, mourners and friends gathered at the Naval Hos. plta. In the cemetery the cleric was waiting ready to perform the fast rites.

Time passed, and there was no sign of a hearse, and a messenger despatched from the Naval Hospital to the cemetery and in formed the Revd. Mr. Hewitt that a hitch had occurred, but that all efforts wore being made to obtain a aultable, conveyance. It appear- ed that the undertaker had been taken ill suddenly.

It was suggested that a carriage bo oblained, but this was. considered impracticable.
Eventually it was those waiting at the hospital gates that they should take turns and carry the coffin by hand. For this purpose a hand biur was, brought into, service, and the funeral cortege proceeded, an hour late.
In error. the cartege took the Stubbs Road route, with the Idea of entering the cemetery from the upper level. Progress was found to be impossible and the mourners were compelled to turn back and take the lower routo along Wong- neichong Road. The grave was eventually reached at 6.30 p.m
