CHINESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

SATURDAY'S ANNUAL

GENERAL MEETING. „

The annual meeting of the Chinese General Chamber of Com merce was held in the Chamber · rooms on Saturday afternoon with Mr. Li Yau-taun (chairman) presiding. He was supported by Mr. J. M. Wong (vice-chairman) and Mr. Ip Lan-cheun (secretary).

Others present included: The Hon. Mr. R. H. Kotewall, LLD., Mr. Li Po-kwal (former chairman of the Chamber), Mr. H. Iu, Mr. Sum Pak-ming, Mr. Li Tik-mul, Mr. Lo Chung-kul, Mr. B. Wong Tapo, Mr. Wong Kam-ying and Mr. Chow Pak-tim.

The chairman proposed the the report and adoption of accounts, which was seconded by Mr. Lo Chung-kul and carried unanimously.

There being no further busi- ness the meeting concluded and the usual monthly meeting of the general committee was then held.

A letter received from Mr. Lam Sum, complaining that he found dificulty in getting electric lights installed at his premises in Hop Wo Street and that the Company asked for deposit of $25, was read by the Chairman, who said

the that

matter hnd been engaging the

of attention the executive committee, which had been

on dwelling the subject for sometime.

It was announced that a certifi- cate was issued contradicting the rumour that the Chu Kwong Lan firm of tobacco merchants were selling goods which were blended with morphia.

Tho chairman placed before the meeting two letters, from the Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce. One of the com- munications related to the proposals regarding the Ordinance governing the "Fraudulent Trans- fers of Business," while the other dealt with an enquiry by Mr. E. H. Bucknall of Foochow

The steps that were being takent by the Committee were explained by the 'Chairman,

At the request of the Superin- tendent of Imports and Exports members were informed that it was necessary for those importing tobacco to have Importers' licenses. The ordinary retallers' licenses were not sufficient.

It was decided that the execu- tivo.committee should go into the question of publishing a Chinese business directory. The Chair- man in referring to the proposal made reference to numerous bogus directories.

The Chairman. before the con- clusion of the meeting asked mem- hers to pay careful attention to the finances for the current year.
