NEW WATERLOO
BRIEGE.
PROBLEM OF ITS DESIGN
It will be recalled that in Deo ember last the L.O.C. decided that Waterloo Bridge should be reconstructed, with not more than Ave arches over the river and of a width to take six lines of vahicular traffic.
The Improvements Committee of the Council have since been considering the matter, and their report was laid bofore a rocont mooting. They point out that:- The high aesthetic value at- tached to the existing bridge, and its relation to adjacent and more distant buildings, such as Somer- rset House and St. Paul's Catho- dral, demand that every effort shall be made by the Council to ensure that the now bridge shall be a worthy successor.

MR ZEITLYN'S SUGGESTION.
Mr. Zeitlyn repeated that it could easily be inferred that, the assistant cashier, prepared to pre- clude at all costs the possibility of a second payment, tore the label off himself. It was perhaps loos0.

CONDUCT OF CASE.
Rising to make the final speech for the prosecution, Mr. Jenkin said that the case presented many exceptional features. It present- ed in one feature, something which did not occur in one trial in 10,000 criminal trials. It had never oc- curred in any case in his own ex- perience.
Counsel for the defence of the first prisoner, not content with) The usual manner of conducting a case, that is to say, testing, the] crédit of witnesses and inviting the jury to reject their evidence, had taken upon himself, after slightly and hardly perceptibly putting questions on the matter to the witness, to lay a charge up- on which he now based his real defehre. He now said that if the bel on the book "Nina" was for- ged, the foregery was committed inside the Wing On Company.
If such a case was going to be put, it should have been made abundantly clear to the witness.
Dealing with case for the prone- cution, Mr. Jenkin said that they were required to prove 'the coto- sion of certain nets by different persons which it was clear were tending towards some common éb jection.
The major portion of the evid- ence, as in most criminal cases, was of a circumstatini nature. The evidence of the acts of Fok, Lam and, Au was highly co- incidental that it was impossible. for any other construction to be put on them than they were done with a common purpose.
At this stage the Court rose for the tifin adjournment.

The Savoy Chapel derives its name from Peter Count of Bavoy, to whom the site was granted ly King Henry III. in 1245. The chapel was built in 1505, and was used as a parish church down to 1717. It was made a Chapel Royal by George III., and restor- ed and partially rebuilt by George Shanghai IV. It was again rostored by Queen Victoria in 1843, following a fire which greatly damaged the interior, and in 1864 It was the scene of asecond disastrous cou- flagration, necessitating yet an- other rebuilding, There is a! tradition that when Liturgy in the English tongue was restored by Queen Elizabeth the Savoy Chapol was the first place in which the service was performed.
