SUPERB ART.

· DENISHAWN DANCERS. HUGE SUCCESS.

At the Queen's Theatre last nigh a crowded house was held spell bound by the superb art of Rut St Deals,, Tod Shawn and th Denishawn Dancers, That th audience exported a very hig standard of work goes withou saying, but it may now safely b said that the spectacular pagean the wonderful and appealing artle try of motlon and colour, exceeded and impression which may hav been gained by any reporta which eame: before. Mere praise seems superfluous, because words cannot possibly convey an adequate des- cription of such ethereal art.

The programme opened with group of "Music Visualisations, the first being a classical picturise tion of moods suggested by the 1st Movement of. Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique. In this, the Deni- shawn Dancers portrayed, in begy tiful mastery, the conflicting modës. suggested by the plaintive music of this particular work. Six other items completed the group, of which, the most exquisite was surely "Soaring" (Schumann), which might well be termed a legend of the sea, so impressively wave-like were many of the move- ments of a huge silken sheet, so gracefully, and realistically repre- sentative of gea-waves, serving a the motive for the fairly like rythm. of the antistes concerned.

In "Xochiti," a dance drama based upon an ancient Tolles Legend, the Company were given a vehicle' for the display of standard. of pageantry which brought to mind the work of the Russian Ballet which caused such a Bonsp- tion in London some years ago. the first part This concltided

of the programme, the second. half commencing with a series lof studies under. the groun heading of "Divertissement". The first of these, The Legend of the Peacock", was presented by Mis St. Denis in delightful and facom parable manner. The 'other items were all of surpassing excellence. several of which gave Mr. Tod
