"I am not sure but that the acquisition of Muscle Shoala by Ford," he explains, "would mark the introduction of a now low. priced metal which would rovolu- tionise the automobile and rail- road business from the standpoint of cost of materials used, and thereby usher in a new ora, of industrial prosperity for Amo rica."
METAL IN SIGHT.
The metal Jordan refers to is) said to be an aluminum alloy, cheaper, lighter and stronger than steel.
Sciontisis and engineers know that such a metal can be produc- ed," Jordan says, but to make it economically such wotor-power facilities as exist at Muscle. Shoals are needed.
"With aluminum now at 28 cents a pound, and the price of bar steel. 0305, imagine the saving that could be made in the weight and economies of automobiles ifj a now and better metal could be) produced to sell near the price of steel,"
Jordan's forecast of the popular) small car is based on tho actual experience of a famous British small car manufacturor. As u result he concludes:
BIG CAR GOING.
"The day of the Lig bulky: sev-passenger car has already gone. Motors will be lighter, of | higher speed and motorists will! change their point of view, since it is no longer a distinction mere- lý to posses an automobile but a far greater distinction to possess good judgment.
They will not be anxious to climb every hill at high spood and they will not be desirous of buy- ing bulky cars to display. their! wealth.
..
"Shorter wheel bases, smaller high speed motors, move compact bodies, bettor carburetion, more standard production with fewer of the innumerable models now being offered, will cut the cost of automobile building to a point where every man, woman and child can have one.'
