INDEPENDENCE DAY TRAGEDY.

Baltimore, July 6.

A large number are missing as the result of an Independence! Day tragedy when the steamer Three Rivers caught fire at mid-night, when returning here with 850 passengers who had been celebrating at-Cove Point, in Chesapeake Bay. The vessel was burned to the water's edge: Survivors declare that there was indescribable panic owing to the difficulty of launching lifeboats. Many passengers who were asleep, were awakened, and donned fobelts. Some were Injured in breaking through windows to avoid the flames. Hundreds flung themselves into the sea. The loss of iffe was minimised owing to the prompt arrival of assistance. The casualties are not yet ascertainable-Router's American Service.
