tive curse. On Friday night, about 200 bandits entered Kau Tau, a place on the other side of the river opposite the city “ Kongmoon, and caught the village guards napping. They succeeded. in looting three small villages and took away, to be held for ransom, about 20 persons, who will most probably have to spend their New Year holidays in the robbers* den with what entertainment one may expect at the hands of bandits.

On Monday night, the bandits paid another visit to the same place in order to repeat their game of the previous night. But this time, the village guards were on the alert, and, with the prompt assistance of the soldiers and Merchant Volunteers from Kong- moon, they beat off the bandits. The people there, however, had a restless night.

Near Muikong village, in Suawui district, a batch of band- its were defeated, in an attempted robbery, by the village guards after a stiff fight of about two |Fours.

In view of the unactivities of bandits, new Volunteer Corps have been called into being in sach villages as Kucheng. Tin- shing and Pakshek, all in Sunwni MENS' district.
