season in London.
Lightest and airiest of the littlə ditting figures was that of Mme. Botsova, Mme. Pavlora's prin- jcipal dancer. In her floating dancing dress of chiffon, and her little pink dancing shoes, with a wide scarf of pink silk binding her dark curls, she looked : typical representative of the dancing geniuses of Russian race who
headed by Mme. Parlora.

But, strange to say,
Mme. Butsors is an English girl, born in Nottingham and educated at a boarding school at Northampton. Her real name is Hilda Boot,
She is not, however, as has been stated, a relative of Sir Jesse Boot, Nottingham's famous citizen.
Another little-known fact is that the very great majority of Mme. Pavlova's corps de ballet are English girls (as was noted in Hongkong.)
"Madame is very satisfied with her English dancers and thinks they have a great deal of talent," Mme. Batsova told
the Press representative," but she also thinks that Eng. lish girls do not have great opportunities for developing their talent, now that the two great homes of ballet-the Empire and the Alhambra no longer answer that description."
Mme. Botsova explained how it was that the very convention- ally brought-up little English girl developed into a dancer who has danced her way all over the world in company with the most famous ballerino of her day, in- cluding the Far East.
"When I was only three years old," she said, "I used to insist on dancing on the table because I did not think the floor was a proper place to dance on

I used to build myself a little stairway to my stage with stools. "Before I danced also I always wanted be undressed and dressed again in a big chiffon scarf, I felt, even at three years told, that one could not really
dance in tight clothes."
Later the little girl who was dancing mad" was allowed to have lessons at a famous academy in London. Twelve years ago she attracted the notice of Mme. Pavlova. and received an in- vitation to join her corps de ballet. From the lowest position in the famous company she has
advanced until she now stands
next to Mme. Pavlova herself.
When the great Russian dancer has been too ill to play her part the English girl has filled her place.
Now she has a repertoire of six of her own special ballets, in some of which she will be seen at Rovent Garden. These include The Polish Wedding." "The Magic Flute," and "La fille mal gardee."
