A Soldier's Battlefield
Sacrifice..
Much interest was aroused in England not long ago by an offer of £20 to any healthy person who- I would sacrifice a pint of blood to savo a child's life. Blood trans- fusion is by no means uncommon, Jand there are many cases that are never brought to the public notice. One instance that has come to light of a soldier who gave two pints of his blood to save a comrade's life is well worth chronicling.
Privato F. W. Warr, who now lives at 2 Wheatley's Cottages, -South Street, Crewkerne, Somer- set, has in his possession interest- ing documents relating to tho event. One from the Officer com- manding the 19th C. C. S. states that he had volunteered as a donor of blood, and gave two pints. Later Warr was sent to join the 3rd Somersets, and the commanding Officer of that Battalion received from the 19th C. C.S. the following:-"I beg to inform you that No. 27,709 Pte. F. Warr gave his blood, for direct transfusion on October 13th, 1917 and thereby saved the life of a sovetely wounded comrade".
The story of Pte. Warr's ex- périence should he interesting to sufferers from violent headaches, indigestion, nerve troubles, and rheumatism, which in almost every instance spring from one When source poverty of blood. he first crossed to France, Pte. Warr began to suffer from racking pains in the head, which were so violent as to leave him in a collapsed state. In his own words, he tried all sorts of powders, but got no relief. Then one day," he said, "a comrade told me. of the value of Dr. Williams' pink pills, so I wrote and asked my wife to send a supply. Upon taking them I obtained quick relief, and the pills completely restored my health. When I was wounded for the third time, and was asked to volunteer to give blood whilst lying in hospital I willingly de- cided to do so. I am very pleased
