Streets Full of Dead,

Reports to band to-day indicate that the Japanese disaster is the worst ever experienced. It is believed that there are more than 100,000 dead alone in Tokyo, where, se well as in Yokohama, the streets are heaped with the bodies of victims. "

Yokohama is described as a mass of ruins, the harbour and dock pards being demolished. Many steamers have been lost.

A tidal wave has made matters worse at Yokohama, where the population is without food or water.

The restoration of the railway is not expected for some time; therefore relief raust depend on the Navy.

Even the cruisers engaged on salvage work on Submarine 70 have now been ordered to participate in relief work. The Home Department bas ordered neighbouring Prefectures to move supplise of provisions to nearby ports whore warships can undertake trans. portation to Tokyo.

A wireless message from South Japan reports that the earth-1 quake has practically destroyed all the cities, towns and villages between Tokyo and Osaka, and caused fires which are still barning. Most of the big buildings in Tokyo have been destroyed and the Imperial Palace is endangered.

Fire is razing from end to end of the city and the streets are heaped with dead. The casualties at present cannot be extimated. Yokobama suffered tremendously from the earthquake, while a 'tidal wave added to the terrors of the population, who are floeting into the interior.

Central Japan is entirely without meass of communication...
