The Hague, August 17: The Cart of International Justice has decided that Germany was not justified in preventing the Wimbledon entering the Kiel Canal, and should therefore pay_compensation. M. Basdevant for France, opening the case against Germany, demanded an indemnity of 176 thousand fraùce, plus sir por cont, interest. The British, Italian and Japanese representatives made statements for the prosecution, 14-16, Cockspor Street, London SWL.A. I. Compton, K. cantanding that Germany's action was contrary to the Peace Treaty Schiffer, for Germany, declared that the implication of a Russo- Polish war would be held tå bare serious internal dangers for før. many. He expressed the opinion that the provisions Treaty in this connection should be interpreted in the spirit instead of the letter.
The Court fixed compensation at 141 thousand francs, to be paid to France within three months.
In 1921 the German Government refused a passage through the Kiel Canal to the steamer. Wimbledon, alleging that the ship was proceeding to Danzig with 4,000 tons of war material for "Poland, then at war with Russia.]
